The Updates: Episode Snowed In

We went up to the cabin after Christmas. We spend my birthday up there every year. My friend Christina came up with us and we had a good time watching movies and reading books... and then the storm rolled in. It didn't stop snowing for several days. 12 feet of snow later, the cars were buried and we were officially snowed in. 

The shed with 12 feet of snow on it. 

Usually this overlooks the deck... but the deck was covered by about 18 feet of snow.

Christina needed to get down to get to the airport so we had to figure out how to get down the mountain. We dug out the jeep but the roads were too bad to get down. Snowmobiles were the only way out and ours were buried in the shed. Christina and I packed up and planned on hiking down. It took us quite a while to get from the front door out to the road. Just as we pushed our way through several feet of snow, two guys passed on snowmobiles and offered us rides to Winter Parking. After they dropped us off, we tried to look as pathetic as possible so we could get a ride down to Christina's car at the bottom of the canyon.

After a little while, we met the McDougal family. They were incredibly kind. They had us wait in their warm Suburban while they finished packing up the cabin and getting things ready and then they took us all the way down the canyon. It was so nice, we lucked out. 

Waiting in the Suburban with the seat warmers and the country music absolutely beats hiking several miles in the cold. 

 After I got Christina down, I met up with my Dad and we drove back up to Winter Parking in the 4-Runner and decided to snow-shoe the rest of the way up. It was -5 degrees outside. So cold. 

We spent New Years up there playing games and having a good time. I slept a lot. Finally we packed up after about a week of being there and went back down. Roy wasn't a huge fan of the snow. 

The snow was deeper than he is tall. 

So glad this isn't my car.
